  • Gimme Some Feedback!

If you haven’t noticed by now, we here at Xanga have started building a series of niche-focused partner sites, using the same technology that powers Xanga itself.  One of the projects that I worked on recently was site-wide forums, which you can check out right now on a few of the partner sites (forums.momaroo.com, forums.revelife.com, forums.xanga.hk).  We’re going to be adding forums to Xanga itself, and I’m curious to find out what you guys would like to see in them.  What kind of categories would you be interested in?  What features are most important to you in a forum?  What do you think of the current forum design?

On a related note, I’m working on adding wiki functionality to our platform.  Think wikipedia (we’re going to use the same open-source software that powers their site).  The specifications aren’t finalized yet, so I’d appreciate any feedback on this feature as well.  Would you be interested in reading/editing site-wide wiki pages?  What topics would you be interested in?  Would you want your own personal wiki page that you could moderate, and if so, what would you use it for?

Well, that’s all for now.  Happy blogging!

  • Always working to improve Xanga!I I lile to visit the partner sites ,I especially enjoy reading the commments.

  • Wow-you guys are busy little bees! I like the partner sites too-I don’t comment much on them, but I enjoy a side trip over from time to time. I think you guys are doing a great job!

As for what I’d like to see…I have to think on that.I’ll be back…

  • This is great! I would love to see forums that have sections where you could talk about politics, international news, tv, sports, etc. Sounds like a huge job you have ahead of you.  Good Luck!

  • fashion because that’s the industry i work in.
and food because who doesn’t like food?

but i think the best idea would be forums based on metros so people can meet each other.

  • entertainment news!!

  • I don’t have a clue what your post is talking about.  Seedsower recommended it.

  • Always the creative and interesting Xanga.  I would like to see some forums about health care.

  • I think all are good ideas.   I would use forums and wikis to gather up parents of children with special needs to discuss the unique needs of our families, offer support, trade helplful tips and possible resources so parents can learn what might be available for their children.

  • I was thinking it would be so cool to be able to select what kinds of things I am interested in and having links to blogs with those tags that belong to people I subscribe to or those that have lots of comments sent to me.  Did that make sense?  I subscribe to people I like but not every blog they write is something I want to read and then I have to sift through.  I would like what I already have so I can catch stuff I might otherwise miss, but also have another page that only lists what is according to my interests.  I would also like to be able to hit a different recommend button than the one that is already there on other people’s blogs and be able to type a tag that indicates what type of people might like that so as to refine who I am recommending the blog to.  You have a complex mind, so you probably were able to follow me on that.  Let me know if I need to explain it a little more clearly.

  • Books, humor, intelligence, art….a forum that feels like a coffee shop where people who like to think and hear other view points and talk can interact…oh, wait…is that xanga?  Age appropriate forums?  How about 30 somethings who act like 20 somthings and 20 somethings that act like 40 somethings.  A forum where older people give advice and answer questions.  Career-minded forum.  Car forum.  Education forum.  Computer forum.  None of those last ones interest me except the old people one.  But I still thought they’d be good ideas.  Oh, a nature lover’s forum where they post pictures and talk about trails and places they  have visited.  Travel forum!!!!  Brainstormers forum!!!!

  • @buckeyegirl31 -  I agree with this. Topics that are specifically categorized.

Sport, Social, Television, Movies, Technology, Religion. I think you get the idea.Good Work!

  • I am useless when it comes to feedback… sorry P… I love everything that you guys do though.

Wait I do have something! I was thinking a good subject for a partner site might be a healthy living one… on weightloss, food, excersise… that kind of thing… I am sure that there would be sponcers for it… right?

Forums… I am off to check them out.

Thanks for the great job your doing !

  • BOOKS! Thank you in advance, whether you include my suggestion or not. NO matter how much Xanga can annoy me (because of the people), I love this site. Seriously.

  • @JonasApproved - I like the forums built around metros idea, thats a great way to meet people!

  • Anything to do with literature, arts, social and culture… you guys should focus more on that areas. We also need some good artwork which we can use for our site’s layout designs, blogs and themes.

  • Thanks for the all the latest upgradings, guys.

  • I’m not positive what you are mentioning doing in combination with Wikipedia but I can tell you I love their site and use it a lot.  Whatever the tie in is, I’m sure I’ll like it.

  • Nothing I say gets counted. I’d like a personal wiki page though. It would be amusing. As for forums, I don’t see the purpose of having forums… it would probably cause less people to blog/pulse if there was a BBS.

  • Not sure but I think maybe a writers/authors forum might be very active. (Everyone aspires to be an author!)

I think it might be fun to create a wiki about my efforts at self publishing?
    Thanks!

  • Some nice idea,  good luck with these.

    Xanga rocks.

  • Patrick; Maybe you can help me! What have they done to Xanga. I have been blocked from the weblogs. All that is showing is “Topblogs”. I want recent or visted blogs, Not things that have been talked to death. I would appreciate any help.  Bro. Cliff Stafford

  • A wiki would be cool to give a guide to people of what or who you’re talking about in your xanga. like a database, so they can instantly click and find out what you’re referring too.

  • I thought Dan’s site was Xanga’s forum. :P

Personally, I like to keep up on what people are thinking on the subjects of politics and the economy. I rarely join in because I hate getting into arguments, but reading people’s comments is a good way to stay informed.

  • Oh, but one thing.

If Xanga does adopt forums, I hope it doesn’t impose a ton of restrictions, the way Gaia Online has with their forums. Xanga’s randomness and madness make it special. :)

  • hey i need a help so how can i finding a friends i cant because i cant enter a password or e-mail but i am so new to this thank you
